Ecclesiastes 3:1 mentions that there is a time for everything under the sun, and this goes for prayer. There are times when you should kneel, close your eyes and ask for help. But prayer is all about relationship with God. God is your brother, your friend, your king, your judge, your God and your father. Sometimes we are on our knees in fervent repentance. And sometimes when you're walking alone at night you can talk to God like he's right next to you. He is both the God that forgave your sins and the God that will give you good dreams; but also the God who puts thunder and lightning in the skies.
Hebrews 2:11
For he who sanctifies and those who are sanctified all have one source. That is why he is not ashamed to call them brothers
Jesus is brother. Jesus came down to earth as God's son. And since we are His sons and daughters that makes Jesus our brother. At times it's okay to talk to God like a brother. You can joke with Him, have fun with Him, hang out with Him, ask Him for favours. He is your brother and He never lets you walk alone. He will give His angels to walk you home late at night. He will protect you from anything that you can't handle.
James 2:23
and the Scripture was fulfilled that says, “Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness”—and he was called a friend of God.
God is friend. God created us to have relationship with Him. He didn't create the whole universe and all the people in it just to leave us fending for ourselves. No. He wants to be your friend, and you can pray to Him like a friend. One day I was at school and prayed to God for strawberries because I felt like one. No joke, a guy in my class came up and offered me a strawberry. God is so cool like that. He will bless you in small ways to show you His presence. So tell Him about your day like you'd tell your friend. Tell Him what annoyed you, what's troubling you, funny stories, and ask him for help in both your journey and for others.
Psalm 47:7
For God is the King of all the earth; sing praises with a psalm!
God is king. It is so important to realize His immense power. That He is the King of the universe. There are times when you will need to bow down before Him and give Him praise. He is your brother and friend but He is also the King, and He needs the highest respect. So praise Him, show him thanks and demonstrate how grateful you are for his forgiveness and grace in your life. This verse actually has an explanation point. Praise Him! Sing Him praise, pray to Him. In a recent sermon by one of our pastors, the teaching was on how to pray. Bringing yourself to God and thanking him at the beginning of your prayers. To bring it down and humble  yourself first, before asking for anything from God in your life is really powerful. It affects everything that comes afterward, I would encourage everyone to try and bring your thanks to the beginning of your prayers.
Romans 2:6
He will render to each one according to his works
God is judge. It's important to know God gave grace. But he wouldn't be God without judgement. If there were no judgement there would be no separation between God's people and the people of the world. But he set us apart. And you are a new creation in Christ, never forget that.
Deuteronomy 10:17
For the LORD your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great, the mighty, and the awesome God, who is not partial and takes no bribe.
God is god. He created the universe! He is all powerful, all knowing, he gives judgement and also mercy. He loves you beyond compare. He is the highest of the high. God of gods, Lord of lords. Your problems matter to Him but are no obstacle for Him. With one spoken word he created light from darkness and he can do the same in your life. Have faith and pray. He is supernatural, his ways are above our ways. All things are possible through him.
Psalm 68:5
Father of the fatherless and protector of widows is God in his holy habitation.
God is father. God is the perfect father. He doesn't contain all the imperfections that our earthly fathers do. He'll never leave you. He'll always chase after you. He'll come when you call. He'll love you unconditionally. He'll send you a hug when you need it and tuck you into bed. He'll watch over you, protect you and raise you. He'll teach you new things and show you a perfect example. He'll protect you and you know he'd die for you, because he already did. He loves you.
Isn't He just amazing?
